DC and Boston

Halloween in DC . Earlier in the night I was Trinity from the matrix, but there was dancing to do and the long, pleather jacket wasn't helping.

Cat and Frankki on a fall bike ride. Yay, for healthy hanging out and small girls competing on horses.
Fortune teller and sailor before the crusade of Saturday night

Cat and Nate in Boston
Who is that good-looking couple in the middle?...yes, I am speaking to you. Come to New Zealand with me. (this is a check to see if you are reading :)
Cat and Steve walk around Boston Common and the Gardens on sunny, Sunday morning.
and then I come home to this treachery...someone has imploded my room!

Birthday

Welcome to Montreal's botanical gardens
where we have captured dangerous bugs in glass spheres
and frozen luminescent, dancing asian women in time
Montreal also has old bits
... older than my grandparents. Hi Grandma!
The birthstone for October-babies is the opal. We like opals.
When my sister is in town for my birthday we make funny hats and go to see Where the Wild Things Are and my friends are nice enough to come with us.
With love,
Cat

Melonhead!!!

Cat woke up from a midday nap to find that she had a melon head and grapefruit hands. Whats worse, whoever performed this frankenstinian operation had not properly sealed the seems between the stubs where her head and hands used to be and they leaked sticky juice down her neck and arms. Cat struggled mentally with the realization but any precursors to successful thoughts were damped by a cool sweetness.

In this state of sightless panic, she wonders if other body parts have been turned into fruit or vegetable matter...but everything else feels in tact.
Cat wonders if her friends will recognize her and if she will still be allowed to sleep on the couch with her neck leaking fruit juice. How will I be able to ride my bike?

Exhausted from these difficult questions, Cat sprawls out on the grass by the Charles river ready to sob....what if she gets hit by a car trying to cross the street? Will her head explode?
As she lay there, she heard the sounds of bicycles, roller blades, young couples with baby carriages rolling along the path by the river. One voice yelled "Hey mellonhead!" as the individual whirred past. "I am not a melonhead" thought Cat, but her melon face stayed cool and smooth despite the mounting inner turmoil.
Cat's melon brain eventually needed to shut down and she fell asleep again...
...upon awaking her hands had popped out of the grapefruit and she was much relieved to at least cradle her heavy melonhead in her hands as she tried once again to mount the bucking bull of consecutive thought.

Cat eventually decided that her friends would let her sleep on the couch - even if she leaked melon juice - and began the 20min walk home. The afternoon sun felt good on her chest where her shirt now damply clung to her.
On the way, Cat thought she heard several others exclaim with joy at the sight of her melonhead (especially as she passed Whole Foods) but Cat was glad not to be in the position to make eye contact. At home, she was received warmly by Rayna who even tried suggesting that she liked the addition of the grapefruit...
With Rayna's help the melon was eventually pried off Cat's head and she thoroughly enjoyed washing the watermelon chunks out of her hair.
In other news:
* I sat at an outdoor cafe with Suelin and saw a great band at the Cantab with a fiddle
* Stayed up chatting in PJs with Rayna and Bryan
* Passed Tom Cruise while running with Rayna along the Esplanade
* Visited Steve's new company's product development space
* Went with Nate to see a former pole vaulter perform his street performance act with his brother

Late summer in Philly (really...so late?)

Shabbat dinner at Emma's house with lots of singing and tasty food.
Lovely dinner setting I arrived to after work on Friday.
Jenn and Cat at a pool party :)
Cat at Flaming Lips concert at Philadelphia's outside concert venue at Penn's Landing. The concert began with the lead singer rolling out onto the crowd in a giant, clear bubble.
There were clouds of confetti and gelatenous baloons six feet accross that filled the sky
and I was there with friends after going to a very tasty Indian restaurant in Fishtown. Then it began to pour and we played in the rain storm far after the band stopped playing and then I biked home in flooded streets.
The next morning Ram and I drove out to Downingtown with the primary goal of testing the water termperature of the lake we will be going the triathlon swimming in on Sept 20
After putting our feet in the water and scoping out the nearby trails - the trip was deemed a success and we headed home.

Running hard

I have been learning a new job at work for the last 5 weeks, and have been training 6 days a week for my first triathlon. The swimming and biking have been really fun and becoming a manager certainly gives me lots of new things to think about but I am looking forward to creating more space.
...although this ride on the carousel during lunch was pretty lovely.

I rode as many different animals as possible. Jumping off, running to the next one, and hopping on, in addition to the twirling and the galloping animals was a lovely break in the day.
This is me in the rest room at Sabrina's cafe. I figured my sis would appreciate this mirror. I had a mahi mahi lettuce wrap with mango sauce.
Here is a glass orb on a metal petastol during a Chinese dynasty around 1600AD. I went to the art museum yesterday and am looking forward to the Picasso exhibit coming soon.

I am headed now to Philadelphia's "First Baptist Church" as part of 2009 Spirituality Tour. I am hoping for some good singing :) After that, over to Ram's for some more work on the joint painting we've been working on for several months...so many yellow ovals.
